Earth Hour 2010What is EARTH HOUR?
Earth Hour began as a progressive mission for one city in 2007. It asked the citizens of Sydney, Australia to shut off its lights for one hour - to make a bold statement about their concern for rapid climate change. The simple action of turning off the lights began as a simple gesture into a dynamic effect that spread countrywide and now across the globe. It spread the message that if we could act for just one hour, everyone, together in harmony to tell our officials that we, the people care about the environment in hopes to protect our future and future's generation. Just then, that message would signal our time of change to fight global warming.
This mission sparked the interest to legislative members across the globe and into our homes. The mission is working. It's time to stand up and send that message again. It's time to tell our government officials that "We, the people of the United States of America", care about the environment. Flipping off your lights may seem trivial to your own town, regardless how small or large it is, and in some cases, pointless. Do not be discouraged, when you think you're alone, just look around the corner, your neighbor is doing it too. So join the cause, make your voice heard. Make that statement, a statement that we are not alone in this hour, indeed our finest hour for our home, planet Earth!
